The new EU Organic logo has been seen on organic products since 1 July, 2010. The Organic logo within the EU provides a standardised label for organic products. Such standardisation makes it easier for customers to select organic products whilst farmers can market them better across the whole EU.
This Bio logo must only be attached to products that have been certified as organically produced by an approved testing body. This means that stringent requirements have been satisfied regarding production, processing, transport and storage. The logo is only permitted for products that consist of at least 95% organic products whilst also fulfilling strict requirements regarding the remaining 5%.
What exactly does “Bio” mean? It means that production, processing and labelling is clearly monitored through legal guidelines and is monitored by independent inspections from the field to the supermarket shelf. “Bio” also means that the foundations of our lifestyle are protected due to this type of food production, such as fertile soil, clean water and maintaining biodiversity.
