The International Food Standard (IFS) sets out stringent requirements regarding the quality and safety of food along the entire value-added chain before an IFS certification is issued.
An IFS certification covers certification in accordance with the criteria set out by International Featured Standards (IFS). The IFS is a series of norms and standards used in the food industry to ensure the safety and quality of food as well as ensuring compliance with legal requirements. The purpose of IFS certification is to ensure that food producers and suppliers satisfy the necessary quality and safety standards. Certification is carried out by accredited certification bodies and is limited to three years. This means that the conformity assessment for certification is carried out by the certification body every three years to ensure that a company is permanently certified in accordance with the International Featured Standards.
