In a world where sustainability and environmental protection are increasingly important, WECH is setting a course for a sustainable future. Pioneering measures are being taken, from St. Andrä to Glanegg, to minimise environmental impact and encourage sustainability. An investment of around €4 million into renewable energies in 2024 meant we reached another milestone on our way to a greener future.
St. Andrä: En route to sustainable energy
Construction of a 1200 kWp photovoltaic plant in St. Andrä: means we can produce around 20 % of our electricity consumption. This plant consists of around 2,900 PV modules. It doesn't just contribute to the independence of the location, but also reduces the impact on the environment. An industrial heating pump is also installed, and this uses the waste heat from the ammonia cooling plant to heat up water. Remarkably, this means that around 65% of gas is saved, corresponding to almost 265,000 m³ of natural gas.
Glanegg: A pioneer in environmental protection
We are using the same technology in Glanegg - and achieving a comparable reduction in gas consumption of around 65%. This investment enables us to reduce our ecological footprint even further. We are also planning installation of another photovoltaic plant on the roof of the company premises over the next few years to put even more emphasis on renewable energies.
Our decision to tender the contracts to install the photovoltaic plants and heat pumps to local companies demonstrates WECH’s commitment to the regional economy. These measures do not just mean implementation of sustainable energy solutions, but also provide active support in terms of developing the region.
